What is TigerVNC?
TigerVNC is a remote desktop software that enables users to access and control remote desktop environments. It provides a way to connect to a remote computer or server and interact with its desktop interface from a local machine.
TigerVNC is based on Virtual Network Computing (VNC) technology, which allows the transmission of keyboard and mouse events between the local and remote computers over a network. It provides a graphical desktop sharing experience, where the user can see and control the remote desktop as if they were physically present at that machine.
The name “TigerVNC” comes from an open-source project that aimed to improve the original VNC software. TigerVNC is compatible with various operating systems, including Windows, macOS, and Linux. It supports multiple display protocols, including RFB (Remote Framebuffer) and RDP (Remote Desktop Protocol).
TigerVNC offers several features, such as encryption and authentication options to secure remote connections, session management, and file transfer capabilities. It also supports different compression methods to optimize the transmission of graphical data over the network, resulting in faster and more efficient remote desktop performance.
TigerVNC is commonly used by system administrators, IT professionals, and individuals who need to remotely access and administer computers or servers. It provides a convenient and flexible way to control remote machines, troubleshoot issues, perform software installations or updates, and collaborate with others on remote systems.
